Tomorrow I’ll be frying my first whole chicken in the same pot after the Turkey is done. I’ve done chickens many different ways but never in a pot like a Turkey and elsewhere on the Internet the advice varies wildly between 3 minutes per pound at 350 all the way up to 9 minutes per pound. Do the cooking gods here have any advice for a newbie such as myself?

Instant read thermometer. You should always cook til done, not a set time.

Yes this is true, but you need an idea of how long to cook it so you can then check the internal temperature. When I’m frying turkey, I fry for 3.5 minutes per pound and I check the internal temperature around that time. I’m not going to check the temperature after 10 minutes if the math says it will take 50 minutes, that’s just idiotic.

Imagine if you will that you are at your grandparents house and they surprise you at 9pm the night before that you are in charge of the Turkey and a chicken. Just looking for a ballpark time estimate here

At 350 go 3-3,5 mins per lb then pull and probe

No different from turkey. I do 3 mins a lb plus 5. Never failed.

I fry chicken at 325°. Takes a little longer but cooks evenly.
