Fresh Shrimp PSA

I was in Westwego yesterday and stopped by the "shrimp lot" to pick up about 2-3 lbs of shrimp. To my surprise, the cheapest shrimp were $2.50 a pound and really nice-sized for that price. The seller told me it was because the season just opened and the price would be going up in about 2-3 weeks. I wound up getting 8 lbs because of the value. Just a heads up for those of you thinking about fresh seafood.

I didn't look around this time because I liked what I saw at the first shop. I did see signs for crawfish and sacks of oysters, not sure the prices.

I buy 21-25s from my guy almost year round for $2.25-$2.50. My adice is to befriend a shrimper and deal directly with him. My shrimper doesn't leave the factory unless he has it sold that was he doest loose any product. Therefore I have to order with him. I just bought some 40-50 Tuesday for $1.75. They were beautiful.
