We went there last week. I have always wondered why I have never heard anyone brag about it. I now know why, not a single person in our group had much of anything good to say. The opinions were in the range of its ok to its horrible. I will say the setting on Lake Ponchartrain is incredible. Did we just hit it on a bad day? Anyone been there? have opinions?

The food is terrible. The only time I ever enjoy the place is when we sit outside and eat raw oysters and drink beer.

Never been, but there is alot to be said for having lake/water views at a restaurant.
Before Katrina, two of the restaurants out at West End were not worth a crap for food, but I still would go out there once a month to eat.
I hate to admit this, but I've actually been to that Landry's out there twice in the last year.

It's a great building with a great view, but the food is bad and overpriced.
They do always seem to have good oysters though.

Should have checked out the thread good restaurants in small town Louisiana. The Crab Trap and Gilligan's Island are on the list. Frenier Landing isn't. All three are located within a stone's throw of each other.

Maybe but I doubt it would be a real wise investment on their part. Thats a pretty damn long haul in a boat to get there. I would guess its about 7-8 miles the mouth of south pass manchac. It is 7 miles down the pass to manchac. Another mile or so to the north pass launch. Your talking 16-17 miles and that would be the shortest trip. Not that many ppl are going to go there by boat IMO.

Has gone downhill. I've been twice in the past month and disappointed both times. Small, expensive crabs, and nowhere near the flavor I used to expect over there.

It's really sad how bad the food is there, given how much they obviously put into that place and its setting.
As others have said, Crab Trap, for the win. Love that place.
