That is the question. Or are places like La Barbeque just as good. Also what ab places in Lockhart? Kreutz?

Mickelwaithe's and la barbecue are damn good

City Market in Luling is tip notch

Franklin is as good as advertised, but I have to be in a tailgating mood to deal with the line

+1 I plan my trips to San Antonio so I hit this place for meal

Franklins is very good as well, its a personal choice on if you want to wait or not. You are surrounded in West TX by very good BBQ joints so there really is no wrong answer.

It's excellent. If you don't want to wait, pre-order the chilled brisket and pop it in the oven to re-heat.

In this weather? No.

I really like John Mueller, Micklethwait, La BBQ, and Black's.

My personal favorite outside of Austin is Snow's in Lexington. But, if you are wanting to go to Lockhart, Kreutz would be my top pick with Black's coming in at second. You really can't go wrong with either.

It is the best bbq (Texas Style). But if you have a short visit, go to LA BBQ, John Mueller, Mickelthwaite, or Stiles Switch. All are very good. Don't waste your time going to Lockhart.

We ate at La BBQ on a nice, spring day last year and the wait was about 2.5 hours anyway.

Worth it because of the free beer while you wait, but we were not expecting to be there that long.

I waited about 45min at La BBQ on a Saturday about 1.5 years ago. It was incredible, best BBQ I've ever had.

Not sure if its worth it to wait the extra time for Franklin's, but for me it seems unlikely.

Waiting for bbq is dumb. There are plenty of places that do it the right way that it's insane to wait in line for hours when you could get equal cue at a less publicized place

It's worth the wait if your willing to have the brisket. I've done the wait before and it's ok if you are the patient type. The brisket is the best you'll ever eat. The pork ribs are great, but maybe not worth it as you could go to Salt Lick or Terry Blacks to get good ribs.

It's worth it to do it once. It's a tailgate, you'll have fun.

Lol wut? It was bad bbq when I was a kid, it was bad in college, it was bad when I worked downtown, and it was bad when I went last year. Did something change?

And Franklins is very good, in the top 5 Brisket in the state, #1 smoked turkey in the state, and top 10 ribs. That being said, very few things are worth that sort of wait. And the comparable places are just as good, and sometimes (in the case of sausage) better.

Black's in Lockhart is legit, the beef ribs and brisket is some of the best I've ever had.
I've tried Kreutz a few times and never been impressed. Smittys is supposed to be top notch too.
