This sounds like a mess.

I've never enjoyed a barrel aged IPA/DIPA. Maybe I've not had a good one.

Unless it was aged with some funk.

I really like the style and enjoy the good ones. I thought last year's Rougarou was an OK BIPA, but not as good as Dr. Hop. Certainly not on the level of my standards like Stone SSR, FW Wookey, Uinta Dubhe, etc.

It would be nice to have a fresh batch of Hoptagon. I think the first batch > second batch. But I'm not buying any of the bottles on shelves now, since they are all from March.

Last fall, we did a blind tasting of DH, SSR and Rougarou. DH was the clear winner with SSR and Rougarou actually very close. The blind tastings are very interesting. We all have biases that go away when you don't know what beer you're drinking.

Why would you waste Citra hops on a BA IPA? That's not hoptimum if you ask me.

I don't really get it. Just make a barleywine.

The only one I've enjoyed was the Great Divide one, but it's just oak aged, not bourbon barrel aged.

Dogfish Head, so malty

And ut, you make a good point. I don't know how Citra would lend itself to that idea. Citra has such an exquisite flavor to itself -- why would you let it just...linger and fade? That would be one I wouldn't seek out, but if I saw a bomber at the store and it was reasonable I might pick it up.

They call it an IPA, yet say on the bottle that it ages well.

But that's none of my business.

They do that a lot. 4miles posted he saw cases of 120 minute on his trip, I hope he picked one up to share. I've not had it. But hardly an IPA. They do weird things over there, but that's basically their tagline.
