His reply was that it doesn't really matter much, because IPAs are meant to age well.

I had an interview with distributor in Houston awhile back. I failed to get the job but I won't mention their beers or their name.

They had mentioned that they were relieved to start carrying craft beers because they aren't as strict on the dates. I was wondering what kind of backwards logic they had.

A few of their lines are real turds around Houston are fantastic fresh but you'll never get them fresh in Houston. Very disappointing.

I found Racer 5 yesterday so old the date was gone. Lots of March IPAs too. The Yellow Rose wasn't dated. I passed on all of them

I also found #cases of 2015 Pumpkinator and Sailing Santa

Did they start dating YR? I only know one store who does it by hand when they get it.

Cmon DW, it won't hurt to share who it is. Name one of the beers they carry.

I had one of the beer distributor guys tell me yesterday that the expired Enjoy By that was still on the shelf yesterday was going to last for a months without losing it's taste. I said to him that Stone usually will pull the ones that are out of date. I had some that were a few weeks out of date and it didn't taste the same to me. Maybe it was all in my head.

Ahh...so maybe one of the members of the Houston craft beer FB page did know what he was talking about.

A while back, posed a question asking why I can't find Double Jack or Wookey Jack in Houston fresher than August '15. Someone replied that the distributor for FW was to blame.

Said the distributor forced stores who wanted to get the Sticky Monkee, etc beers to purchase a shite-ton of DJ and Wookey bombers. Now those remaining bombers are shelf turds, but supposedly the stores can't get any fresh ones until the old ones are sold.

Any of y'all know of any truth to that?

I can find fresh Luponic in Houston, and every now and then fresh Union. However, Double Jack is one of my favorite DIPAs so not having that fresh grinds my gears.

Big distributors purchasing is all f'ed up. Its like being a ford or Cat dealer. They have no say when it come to their main lineup but work their arse off to keep that same line.
