I just can't imagine making home made salsa with canned tomatoes. Looks good but I'd substitute some fresh tomatoes.

I've found I prefer canned tomatoes when making salsa. Can't really explain why but I do.

I use the Pioneer Woman's restaurant style salsa..makes a huge batch but it couldn't be easier, and it really is a dead ringer for the salsas here in town (fake Mexican).

I also prefer canned tomatoes in my salsa...but it could be the crap fresh tomatoes you get at the store, especially out of season.

I have pimped this ladies blog a lot on here but she does authentic mexican food really well.
Here is a list of her recipes (salsa near the bottom)
Her Green Salsa couldn't be any easier. I do this regularly.
3 fresh tomatillos, husk removed chopped
2 chiles serranos or 1 jalapeno chopped
6 springs of cilantro, chopped
About 2 tablespoons of chopped onion
1 medium size Avocados
1/3 cup water
Salt to taste
put in a food processor and blend to smooth. (I add some garlic too)

If for a quick salsa I prefer to make an easy corn and black bean salsa.

I'm going to try her habanero tomatillo salsa that's listed last under the sauces/pickles section. It seems like it would be extremely hot.
