Favorite pasta for pastalaya?

Help solve a debate. I like linguine, I find it’s just enough girth to capture the broth flavor, but not too noodly. My wife likes rotini, mainly because its a cleaner bite, but I find it turns to mush with leftovers.

My buddy, who is an idiot, swears the only way to cook pastalaya is with regular spaghetti

Spaghetti first, penne second. There’s no other pasta I enjoy in pastalaya.

Use bucatini or long macaroni. Much better than spaghetti noodles.

Ya, I see a bunch of videos of people making it with these. Just looks weird to me, Im sure it tastes fine. I just feel it needs to be a shorter pasta like the ones mentioned above.

i started using Orzo last year and people rave about it. It's all i use now. Haven't used rice or another pasta since.

I don't think I've ever seen it with anything other farfalle or maybe penne
