Love those things. Atwoods used to have the best ever. Now, I can only get them at the Asian places.

In NOLA:

Blue Dot apple fritters are the best, hands down.

But they always run out early. :-(

Every doughnut is the exact same dough flavor with different toppings.

While the dough may not vary much, the flavors are immensely diverse. I tried five different dougnuts and each one had its own distinct flavor. I don't know what you ordered but I can assure that my experience was anything but the one you described.

No one said they were cheap. But in my opinion they are well worth the price.

Eat one of their filled doughnuts and you'll swear you just consumed a sugar-glazed boulder.

Agreed. Personally, I prefer richness in my doughnuts rather than general sweetness. That's the primary reason why I rarely ever order a plain glaze and I have always opted for cream fillings.

Try Wink's Buttermilk Drop bakery. He starred in the film 'Beasts of the Southern Wild' and his buttermilk drops are fantastic.

I've been compiling a list of "must-visit" New Orleans dining establishments and this is one of two doughnut restaurants I still plan to visit (the other is Blue Dot).
