I got turned on the chili crisp about 2 years ago and I've been borderline addicted ever since. My wife bought me the Momofuku pack, which has one of each type they make as well as soy sauce, tamari, etc. I had it on an egg in a whole this morning(with a thick piece of homemade Tartine recipe sourdough my wife makes) and some rice and beans for lunch today.

At this point I've only had Momofuku brand, Fly By Jing and the OG, Lao Gan Ma(which is only $3.99 at a small Asian market near me).

Momofuku is my favorite overall. Lao Gan Ma is second and Fly By is third.

The Lao has this wonderful, almost caramelized onion flavor that is different than the other two, but overall I like the Momo flavor best and they have variations on the standard one. The Fly By has way less crunch to oil ratio than the other two, which is a big minus in my book, when it's ~$12 for 6 oz. Momo is a comparable price, but the Lao is way cheaper.

Any other recommendations? Anyone try to make it themselves?

Momofuku is the best that I've had, but it is so damn pricey.

Lao Gan Ma is ok but there is something in it that just has a very weird aftertaste...maybe the MSG? I just don't like it that much.

Trader Joe's chili crisp is very solid and is only $4.50. It's the clear winner as far as bang for your buck IMO.

It is pricy. So is the Fly By Jing. It is hard to justify paying basically $30/lb for these but they totally change a simple rice or noodle dish.

I like the Lao and haven't really noticed an aftertaste. I'm sure it's probably packed full of MSG, but I'm not too worried about that.

I'll have to give the Trader Joe's a shot. That's a good price.

Got into this several months ago. I’ve only had the Lao Gan Ma and also make my own using a Woks of Life recipe, which is quite good but not as much of the crisp per se. Love them need to try others.

Like the Momofuku and the Chile Crunch brand.

Had a new brand recently that has a salsa macha, and it was really good as well.

Blank slate kitchen. Made in US and has a lot of oil vs chile.

I would also check out themalamarket.com. They have a few brands with descriptions, etc. They are pretty solid on Sichuan based stuff.

I recently went by the Asian market in BR and love it but wish I had someone to go around with me to tell me what a lot of the things are/used for, etc. So much exotic stuff.

I was late to the party on chili crisp, but man is it good. Stirred some into cheap ramen noodles last week for a desperation lunch, and it was delish.

This one is also good.

I've tried that one and it's really good. I just ordered some Fly by Jing but haven't tried it yet

Running low on my Lao Gan Ma so I figured I'd try a different one

Ive got some Lao Gan ma by rec of this board mostly, and I've used it a few times, but if im honest im not sure what typical uses for it really are. What do y'all usually do with it? Mix it in as a part of a sauce? Top stuff with it? If so, what kind of stuff?

I've tried it on lots of stuff, rice, veggies etc but pork skins are the best thing I've found.

Southern Chili Lab

Check these guys out. Chef is from Louisiana and is making some awesome spices mixes. My favorite is the black garlic sambal.

Rice, noodles, eggs, soups, etc. I made avocado toast for lunch yesterday and put sesame seeds and chili crisp on top. Delicious.

I make egg in a hole about once a week and put it on that. It's great mixed in with roasted broccoli. Just try it on different things and see what you like.

Went to TJ's today for the first time to grab a jar of this. What a weird store...in a very interesting way. Bottle a couple jars of other sauces.

This week I ate homemade vegetable soup until I was getting tired of it. Mixed a small spoon of chili crisp into my bowl, and it transformed the soup to something totally different and delicious.

I smeared some on a tuna salad sandwich to jazz it up. Have done the same with chicken salad that I was eating with Triscuits. Added a dab to each cracker, and it was great.

Apt description, which makes TJ’s sound awesome in my book.

They have some great one-off products we really enjoy.
