I doubt I'm the first one to mention it on this board, but Sonnier's Famous Boudin & Sausage in north Lake Charles is AMAZING.

I bought a pound of the spicy boudin and smoked it along with some sausage. The boudin has a great heat to it, one that you'll notice but it isn't overpowering. The casing had a great "snap" to it, but that probably had something to do with the smoking. The rice is cooked perfectly, not just mush in a link, and the green onions and celery taste very fresh. The shredded pork is also in abundance, probably 50% of the volume. This is best boudin I've had short of Poche's in Breaux Bridge.

They also sell mild and smoked varieties in store. It's not in the best part of town, but just during the day. The hot garlic pork sausage is also very good fwiw. They had coolers with smoked turkey necks and other smoked and non-smoked meats that I'll probably try next time I do a pot of beans. Prices are very fair and the staff was helpful and friendly. It's about 5 minutes north of I-10. If you have the time I'd highly recommend taking a little detour to check them out

Sonnier's is great. Far and away the best in Lake Charles. Better than a lot of places in prime boudin land as well.

Agreed. Homsi's was my go to in LC before this. Sometimes the smoked boudin from the Nelson Rd. Market Basket.

What's up with that Lil cochon place on I-10?

I tried to stop and they were closed on Sunday, that's boudin day

I think they do pretty good business with plate lunches. I've never been though and I agree the location is not good

This must be Mr. Sonnier who owned Peggy's Superette in the 90's. He eventually went over to help Peto's in its beginning.

It's much better than Market Basket, IMO. Way too much rice in that stuff. My parents love it but it's not for me.

The owner of Sonnier's used to make all the boudin and sausage for Market Basket before leaving and opening Sonnier's.

You know they now have a 2nd location just off Enterprise Blvd. Turn left at the 1st light by Ball's Fried Chicken and its on the left. Probably a little easier to get to plus I think its a bigger store so may be able to carry additional items.

Now that's great news. Much closer to me than the location I went to. Thanks for the info.
