Does anyone else do this? I have just started cooking chicken, burgers, jambalaya, etc for the week. One big shopping trip, then one big blowout cooking session. Then put everything in the fridge.

I think it saves time, saves money, and helps me keep the kitchen clean.

Who else does this? If so, any tips for a beginner?

I do this sometimes. It helps me stay on a diet as I have food prepared for lunch at work all week. I dont eat out as much.

It is also fun to drink beer and cook all day.

My dad usually cooks some type of meat on Sundays to last 2-3 days then just fixes different sides during the week

Just because that's all true don't make it right.

I've done it several times but we go to my inlaws a lot on Sunday. If I'm home on a Sunday evening we normally cooking something that will last a couple days. Today Easter was at my house so we have a bunch of meat left over. Just need some sides for a day or 2.

I sit down and plan every meal for the week, log it all into MFP to make sure I'm under my calories, and then go grocery shopping all on Sunday. I know exactly what I'm eating and drinking through Friday night... But I do not make meals for the entire week :/ I am not much of a leftovers person, so meal prep doesn't really work on me.

I'll sometimes make a batch of red sauce with veggies and beef/meatballs, but that's the extent of it. Containers with chicken + veg just don't appeal to me and I end up wasting money because I throw them out. I really wish I was more of a leftovers person.

I DO prep lunches the night before though. When I cook dinner and have the kitchen dirty, I'll prep lunch for the next day. Tomorrow is a salad, and I already have the dressing, toppings, protein, and lettuce weighed out and packed away.

When I get into something, I go off the deep end. But, hey, I'll never be fat.

This is my primary motivation. If I am headed home and I know there's good, cooked food ready. And all I have to do is make a plate, then I am much less likely to go through the Chick Fil A. I am trying to pretty much eliminate fast food, and make sit down restaurants for special occasions. Diet and financial reasons.

Same. I started seriously budgeting and changing my eating habits at the same time, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out they go hand in hand. Not having kids or anyone else to feed helps. I can make whatever weird arse money-saving, low-calorie meal I want.

Like you said, I'm way less likely to get takeout if I have it planned out and prepped. Fast food wasn't a big weakness of mine, but worse, I was heading to the bar and getting $7/pop beers + dinner numerous times per week. shite adds up both in money and diet.

There was a thread the other day about posters you like more than others, and just FYI you were my pick.

I will typically cook for an entire week of lunch, but my dinners can vary.

I try to plan out meals and make one grocery trip on the weekend. My husband and I both enjoy cooking in the evenings after work, so we don't cook for the week. I try to eat out for lunch only one day a week, so I will typically make a few lunches on Sunday. Have wild rice and turkey sausage pieces for lunch the next three days in the fridge and ready to go.

Meals in the slow cooker, oven, and stove all at once is the way to go.

Pork/beef/turkey/chicken in the slow cooker, red beans/gumbo/red sauce on the stove, and veggies/potatoes in the oven is my go to.

After that, it's easy to just boil rice/pasta during the week or make a salad without too much cleanup.

I do this every Sunday...but invariably end up at a lunch with a customer or happy hour wife my wife and friends consuming large amounts of Lone Star and chips and queso.

But hey, I take 5 spin classes a week so I break even right?

Do it all the time. Smoke/BBQ on weekend or cook something that's good reheated.

I say I'm going to do this all the time but something more fun than the kitchen always comes up on Sunday afternoon so I'm back to eating out every day for lunch
