I'm cooking a chicken in a can at work today. Who here has tried it? I got the idea from the OB.

It should be done at around noon. That's a 4.5lb chicken double wrapped in aluminum foil, injected with creole butter and rubbed with some garlic/salt rub. There are 17 briquettes in the bottom of the can. It's been cooking since 8:30ish.

I'll post some after pics when it is done.

Beautiful bird:

My 4th grade teacher told me that success comes in cans, not in can't. Just thought I'd share. Good luck on the yard bird.

do you just set the chicken on top of the coals?

basically. I added some aluminum foil on top of everything to kind of seal it off and keep the heat around the chicken more. Although, the chicken shouldn't be touching to coals or it could burn. I've also flipped it twice to try to achieve more even cooking.

They all (rightfully so) think I'm crazy. I'm toying with doing a whole pig one day but that requires so much more care and oversight, besides the fact some a-hole still has my cajun microwave.

I would basically have to take off a day and just cook it for them all day and something tells me the wife wouldn't be too kean on me using my pto that way.

I figure a steel drum, a couple bags of charcoal and a whole lot of aluminum foil is where we have to start.

where can I find some of that yummy looking Sweet Sue yard bird in a can? Christmas is coming and I know a few people that need chicken in a can under their tree!

I also clicked onto this thread thinking that someone had actually made a canned chicken edible. I was going to ask advice on canned tuna.
