Anyone know of any in S.E. La or within an hour along the gulf coast? Didn't the Rum House have a conch fritter? I don't see it on their website. Thanks.

They had them at one time. I remember because they left a burn on the roof of my mouth that lasted about 10 days.

ETA: Online menu shows sweet potato and conch fritters for 8.95

I saw a menu last week that had them listed for the Rum House, but my wife went this weekend and didn't see them and now when I look on their website I don't see them.

Haven't been in a couple years so I can't verify if they are still there

Get 'em now because Key West and other troves of conch might be out of commission for a little while.

I'm in Lafayette. What's my nearest place to purchase conch? Perhaps frozen from the internet? I don't know of any groceries that carry them here.

The only place I've ever seen them in New Orleans was at the old Jimmy Buffet's restaurant.

Odd request.

How are they? Do they have that slightly chewy feel?

Not really. I used to travel to Key West frequently and always appreciated them. To remind me a bit of good times I would go to Margaritaville in the Quarter only for the fritters. Not the best, but the best in NOLA at the time. It's shellfish, breading and a bit of seasoning, what's not to like? I didn't down vote you, btw.

Thanks. I'm going to give them a try. I was intending to, but now it's a priority.

And I didn't mean that the least bit disparagingly.

I dig oddball requests. Constant mundane is boring.

Imagine chewing on a piece of rubber for awhile.

I didn't think you meant it disparagingly. But, I suppose it's not that common a craving. Sadly, or maybe not, Margaritaville used to sate my cravings. I'd head there for a couple servings of fritters then cross the street to Coop's for the Gumbo and "cajun pasta."

Rubber? Not quite like that. I enjoy the conch chunks that are springy and give way after four or five chews.

I've ordered it from the internet before, came frozen in a 5lb box. Had a bunch of friends over and we did fritters/cracked conch.

If I were going to order them in N.O. it would be from Compere Lapin... The chef is from the Caribbean so she actually knows what to do with it.
