Cigar Appreciation Thread

I just ordered a humidor-jar type.
In general and in this type in particular, do you unwrap the cigars (that are in plastic wrap) prior to putting them in the humidor?
Purchased:
CAO sampler
#5:Macanudo
Man O War Virtue
Anyone know of these?

When you enter a humidor room at a cigar store, they are still wrapped.

Unless it's the size of a 55-gal drum, you will quickly find yourself wanting a bigger humidor. At least if you are like me. BTW-I have 3 humidors, PITA sometimes.

Only because US law requires that cigars be individually wrapped if they are to be sold. Its a phenomenon seen only here. Cigars sold in Europe, Cuba or Asia do not have cellophane wrappers.
The wrappers should be taken off so that the cigar can breathe...

False. No such law exists.
As for the cellophane, that is a matter of preference. Many of the cigars I buy don't have cellophane like Tatuajes orSan Cristobals, however the ones that do, typically my La Aurora 107s, I keep it on so the flavors don't mingles as much, and it is also a line of defense against tobacco bugs and beetles.

Cigars are cello wrapped because multiple States have revenue codes that require cigars to be individually wrapped. In response, virtually all of the cigar manufacturers elect to cello wrap their cigars that are exported to the US. It's simply easier than deciding to wrap cigars for TN, WI, FL and multiple other States while leaving wrappers off of cigars where it's not required.

Cut the ends off the cello allowing the cigar to breathe but I like that it protects the outside wrapper and keep it from possibly peeling during handling.

I've ordered from a few places before, and CI is hands down the best. Fantastic customer service and every cigar I've ordered has arrived on the day it said it would, and fresher than I get at local shops.
Just had a small order come in last night, including a 5-pack of Cigar Aficionado's 2012 cigar of the year, Flor de las Antillas Toro:
I've not had one of these yet, but will be enjoying it tonight while watching some football/baseball outside

You must have a really big bung hole, because you pulled all of that out of your arse.
Cellophane is used to protect the humidity levels, to protect from bugs and beetles, but most of all to protect the delicate tobacco wrapper. But back to my original statement, there is no US law that requires cellophane wrappers in order to be sold.

I'm rather proud of my bunghole thanks. But if you take a look where I'm from it so happens I live in the cigar capital of the US. I work less than a mile from Fuente, Oliva, Villazon and JC Newman.
I actually asked the owner of Arturo Fuente why cigars are cello wrapped in the States and not elsewhere a few years back and you've now seen his reply.
And to think you'd have me believe that the US uses cello wraps to protect $2 sticks while Habanos SA doesnt bother placing a wrapper on a $30 Cohiba Esplendido.

At all of you saying the cigar needs to be able to breath in the cellophane. The cellophane is porous and doesn't affect that one way or the other. The only true answer for that is personal preference. For aging or just storing in a humi non wrapped tends to marry the flavors of other cigars and infuse a bit of the cedar in a typical humidor into the cigar. If you don't want them to marry leave them wrapped. If you are going to be transporting them in a travel humi or something like that, you may want to leave them wrapped to help protect the wrapper leaf. Posted on 10/18/13 at 7:44 am to NaturalBeam

I'm not yet an afficionado-still learning-but I have found this to be the case as well.
I ordered earlier this week and the delivery date guarantee was next Tuesday. I looked at the tracking info and it is going to be here today.
I also like their catalogue. They are trying to sell of course, but they don't try to pretend a $1.50 cigar is the best thing ever, just that it is good for the price.
Have any of you tried the Alec Bradley brand? They are offering a nice sampler which includes the 2011 Cigar of the year.
