I don't have one. I just wanted to say that you're username is my favorite on TD.

Homemade fried chicken and waffles should be pretty simple. To me it's all in the syrup. I had it at Legacy Kitchen in Metairie and they had a pepper jelly syrup that was really good. They also had bacon pieces in their waffles.

Find a dank fried chicken recipe first.
Waffles wont make a difference as long as they are fluffy.

This fad is one of the worst. Don't get me wrong, I love chicken and waffles -- when done CORRECTLY. Unfortunately the only place I've found that does it correctly is Roscoes. There's more to it than just chicken, a waffle, and syrup.

Well you can get it Plain Jane style like the places that have tried to capitalize do it, but it's the other varieties and extras that separate then from the rest. Their "Stymies Choice" is one of the best things I've ever eaten.

You'll see what I mean when you check out their menu. They smother the chicken in gravy and onions on some the platters, plus they have lots of extras you get get like sautéed chicken livers or giblets, candied yams, greens, red beans and rice, Mac and cheese, etc

That "fad" has been served since the 30s.

Yeah but not to the extreme extent that it is today. Seems like every restaurant has tried to capitalize on it.

It's up there with the sushi, martini and burger fads.

Oh, and jogging.

like most soul food places in the south.

i love fried chicken but i think its a food that can only be so good. also lends itself to being a food that people grew up eating so their favorite is the best ever.

frying chicken is pretty basic imo

It's silly what people get worked up over. Some places do it very well. Others not so much. Same goes for every other type of food on the planet.

I disagree in regards to fried chicken. There is some fried chicken, such as Gus's in Memphis, that is wayyyy better than anything else I've had. There are many levels of fried chicken, at least in my world.

I also haven't found any places, soul food or other, in the South and especially not in Louisiana, that has chicken and waffles and all of the other extras that Roscoes has (the gravy ñ' onions, giblets, livers, etc) If you know of any, I sure would be interested to hear them.

Because chicken and waffles isn't really a southern thing.

All of the rest is very much a southern thing that you can find at most plate lunch joints.

I just dont think there are many levels. Chicken itself is pretty bland. There just isnt that much you can do to fried chicken that could separate itself from the crowd of fried chicken available all over here. Plenty of people say their favorite fried chicken is popeyes and are dead serious. That should tell us how basic of a dish it is.

maybe not waffles. that seems to be specific to a certain places that just market themselves specifically as that.

all the sides and other items should be at places like dorothys, pappas, etc. just google tigerdroppings soul food

fwiw i do love the food. its just that it pretty much all seems the same to me.

Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree in regards to fried chicken. To me it's like an art form. Eating at places like Gus's, Uncle Lou's, and Lorman Country Store gave me a different perspective.

And trust me, I love me some soul food -- Dorothy's, Cafe Express, Delpit's, you name it... unfortunately none of them have chicken and waffles.

there is defiantly a difference between a well season, brined and juicy piece of fried chicken and Albertson's dozen box however the floor for chicken is still pretty high.

No one stops eating popeyes because they ate at whatever the hot bum-frick chicken spot is at the monument.

You can keep the Waffle as far as I am concerned. Give me some cornbread
