Sorry if this has been asked (I searched)

Does anyone have any experience with the char-broil tru infrared? I have a charcoal grill and am looking for a cheap gas grill for quick meals and something my wife could use. I don't know if I want just a normal gas grill or one of these tru-infrared grills. TIA for any info

Yes.
They get hot fast.

They're easy to use, and radiate heat extremely well. You're gonna love it.

I have had one for 3 years and it is a great grill. No flare ups, easy to clean and gets very hot quick. 650+ for steaks. get one and play with it, you won't be sorry.

Thanks for the quick responses. Are they all about the same? I see them as cheap as $200. Is that just because it has 3 burners instead of 4/5 and with no side stove?

I've got one. The commercial 4 burner rig that cost about 500 clams. Cooks great. The hood is solid stainless steel and is very sturdy. The components/rest if the grill is made out of some cheap arse Asian tin foil alloy. Mine is falling apart.

I've had the 4 burner Gourmet Series for three years. Solid investment IMO.

had one for over 3 years. they cook really well but, all of the stuff that would normally fall through the grates into the bottom of regular grills lands on the infrared surface. so it has to be taken apart and cleaned. the grates themselves are wider and deeper so normal brushes dont work real well and the scraper they sell for this grill sucks. I retired mine and went back to a regular gas grill.

This is the problem I have with mine. On the plus side youre not having to scoop shite out of the bottom of the grill to clean. I dont find that mine gets super hot, could be bc I have mine hooked up to my natural gas. Overall I like it and expect it to last 3-4 years like my last Char-broil. I recently discovered how to smoke on the grill with a stainless steel bowl and wood chips.

Yes it gets hot fast, but like others have said. The drippings have no where to go. I'd rather a weber.

yeah, works pretty good. I used to wrap the chips in foil and poke holes in the top.

Had one for several years. As others have said it is difficult to clean. Plus I had a hard time regulating the temp. It was either hot or cold, very difficult keeping it on, say 400, for any stretch of time.

Is there anything special or any quirks about these grills a newb would need to know? I normally use my weber charcoal kettle, but the place we are renting in a few weeks has a Tru-infrared that I'll be using. It'll be my first infrared grill I've used.

Nah, it's just like any other grill but you don't have to worry with flare ups

Super easy to use, I love mine
