Drew Brees was getting grief over a presumed bad tip in a California eatery that was posted online.
He took to twitter to clear up the controversy.

In case anyone still cares about this report: I tipped $3 on a takeout order. Had we sat down it would have been 20

Sounds like a good tip to me. Do you guys tip on a take out order?

Sometimes I do. If it is a mom and pop place I go to or a bar and grill kind of place where I'm ordering and getting the food from the bartender.

Btw, tipping threads bring out the idiots on this board.
Edit- oops thought this was on the ot. Will not be too many dumb responses here.

Am I the only one who feels awkward when the cashier at a restaurant hands you a receipt to sign while getting an order to go? I feel like they're eyeballing me into leaving them a tip.

I would have tipped more than that and I'm a broke dick.

That's not overly generous either. Especially for a kabillionair. There must be a brotha in the Brees' family tree.

This is stupid. No reason to tip some chick putting shite in a bag. Do you tip the people that put your groceries in a bag? The cook isn't getting that tip so it's stupid.

I think at the minimum I would have rounded that bill to $80. I think more than likely I would have left between $7-10. Seriously, $75 is a ton of chinese food

A lot of work went into that.

ETA Actually I 100% would have left more than that, I left $5 on a $30 takeout from an italian place last week.

He failed to mention he has a 4,000 acre farm that is subsidized by the federal government in NELA that nets him well over $750,000 profit each year. This is his side gig while he is not traveling around the SE US working as the VP of Sonic's Quality Control department.

Balls could fill the bag up with $100 bills and not think twice about it.

"I am not at liberty to divulge the identity of our guests or to confirm the authenticity of this receipt or whether it is a digital creation and fraud," Schreiber wrote in a statement. "What I can say is that we believe Drew Brees to be a great guy and pillar of the community in New Orleans as he was and still is in San Diego through his immense charitable giving and wonderful leadership."

To complete the apology, Schreiber made a donation to Drew Brees' foundation for $888.88, a lucky number in the Chinese culture.

High five.

Not a damn thing wrong with $3 tip on a to-go order under $100.

I'd fire that girl.

one of the local blogs/writers/someone (i saw a write up but dont remember where) did an informal survey (leaving drews name out of it)of local folks that do to-go orders with regards to if a small tip on a take out order is an insult.... the majority said that any tip is a welcome surprise for doing pretty much no work, with only a few complaining.

Except that she's probably making less than minimum wage.

I've tipped many a bag boy who has helped me load a bunch of shite in my car. They too are barely making any money and the appreciation on there face is well worth the few bucks I give them.

Agree.
Tipping is for the server, not the counter person or the cooks.

And in many Chinese restaurants, the counter person is an owner.

If I was a bazilionaire I would have tipped a $20 on that order, but that is just me.

I am not a Brees or Saints fan, and I think it is silly he is getting criticism for this.

I guess so I know how hard most hostesses work for to-go orders. It's worth about $3-$5 for orders in the $59-$100 range.

And the truth is, most people don't tip anything on a to-go order, and I have very rarely seen anybody tip more than $5 for <$100 orders. It's just not necessary.

I used to sometimes work the take-out position at the restaurant I worked at. A dollar or two was all I really ever got for each order no matter if it was a $10 bill or a $100 bill. hell, most people didn't tip anything and just sat in their cars talking on their cellphones like jackasses while I tried to cram food through their window.

Don't get me wrong I get that the majority probably agree with you. I just personally think you should tip in the 10% range on any take out order. Just bc the rest of America is cheap doesn't mean you have to be.
