I've never been so surprised to like something as milk punch.

The classic ratio is:

4 parts milk
2 parts dark spirit
1 part syrup

If you sip slowly, consider cream rather than milk, to combat the melting of ice cubes. Or make cubes of frozen milk. (Milk punch gulpers/chuggers, such as myself, need not fret over this detail.)

I prefer bourbon, but good brandy or even dark rum also excel.

I am partial to maple syrup for sweetening this drink, especially with bourbon.

And unless the nutmeg can be grated extra-fine, I generally prefer to avoid that grit.

I use Brandy because what the hell else do you use that for? Plus, like the poster above, I hate to waste bourbon on a milk punch.

In case you need a small batch recipe that is drinkable all day:

2.5 cups whole milk
.5 cups half and half
1 cup brandy
.5 cup sifted powdered sugar
2t vanilla
freshly ground nutmeg
Combine all and serve over ice

This is not as rich/heavy as others.

I made some with Crown Maple and pretty much used exactly what is in the Bourbon punch and it came out great.

I have a bottle of this that I am looking to use as it is to sweet to drink by itself. What ratios did you use?

The answer is always bourbon. Only the questions vary.

This thread inspired me as I have a fifth of Crown Royal Maple I'm trying to use up.

Went with 1 cup of Whiskey, 3 cups Whole Milk, 1 pint Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, splash of vanilla extract and some nutmeg. Turned out great.
