He makes some good points but the foodie culture is something that he had a hand in creating. Some of it's douchey, no doubt, but food has gotten significantly better in pretty much every city over the past 10yrs or so and you have to take the bad with the good. If people want to order a kobe beef frito pie, let them be happy.

Though I defend Bourdain, I've also heard him espouse the wonders of the Joe Beef Double Down which is about af douchey as one can get (albeit delicious).

Also: for those interested in the truffle hustle, read the memoir Truffle Boy. I've talked about it on here before, but it's written by a former student of mine. I'm even mentioned in the foreword. It's a great story, but Ian also basically pulled back the curtain on the entire truffle scam.

I just can't get over the whole brunch thing. Brunch is an American institution.

Maybe this little fig dislikes breakfast, or drinking for 2-3 hours before lunch on the weekend, or people who choose to eat and drink for 2-3 hours before lunch on the weekend.

Bourdain really struck a nerve with the brunch loving dandies on here

He's just trying to stay edgy and relevant. Can't blame the guy for managing his brand...

Brunch is a New Orleans institution. He probably wants statues removed, too. Yankee scum.

I think he'd probably respect NOLA brunch and probably already does

It's when other people try to do "brunch" it gets a little pretentious.

I agree

Nothing beats doing an Arnouds or Galatoires Saturday brunch from a patron perspective. The entire experience with the music and company is worth that $35 crabmeat cheesecake.
