boiling 6 sacks of crawfish on Saturday (paging motorboat)

I have never boiled 6 sacks nor two sacks at a time.
Since I am doing 2 sacks per boil, will one 5lb bag be ok or should I do 1 full bag, 1.5 bags, or 2 bags? Also, how many liquids would I do each boil?
When should I change my water? I clean my crawfish really well.
I actually boiled 3 sacks (1 per boil)a month or so ago using your recipe and never changed my water and they were perfectly fine.

Spicy vs not quite as spicy
12lbs of Louisiana seasoning------- 10 lbs of louisiana
1 cup of Cayenne-------- 1/2 cup of cayenne
32 oz of ZATS at soak------ 16 oz of zats at soak

If you do two sacks a boil you should be fine with the same water. With these harder crawfish this time of year, you will need more seasoning, IMO.
I'd start with about 8-9 lbs powder your fist boil and add about 1.5 cups of liquid at soak. For the second boil, I'dd add another 4-5 lbs of powder and 1 cup at soak. For the third, I'd add another 2-3 lbs of powder and another cup at soak.
ETA: just saw Pride's post. Pretty close...
also, I am bad about measurements because I buy a 50 lb box and add with a scoop and a gallon jug of liquid and add by sight.
did these bad boys yesterday. Selects anyone?

Would you using a bag of ice still be ok or do I need to use more ice since I am doing more crawfish after I bring it up to a boil for about 2:30-3 minutes

No shite, I've never seen anyone change the water.
It would frick up the rest of the sacks.

quote:No prob. The spicy is legit for people who truly like spicy. It wont hurt but you will feel it. The not quite as spicy(which matches up with Motorboats recipe) will be the more traditional style level of spice. Both are good. I pretty much follow the exact same cooking method as motorboat as well. Louisiana powder with zats at soak
Thanks! (that goes for you pride as well)

no it doesnt. thats the same as saying the first pot of the day is going to be fricked up because its fresh water and ingredients

Once you cook a few batches, the water can muddy up a good bit, depending on how clean your crawfish are
I've never done more than 4 batches and I've yet to change the water. If I'm doing more than 4, I'll just use 2 pots

The sacks get spicier and better after every boil.
It would frick up this progression.

Best success I've had lately is using 2 separate pots
Boil in one lightly seasoned pot for 3 minutes and then transfer into a different pot, well seasoned with the water at about 160F. Guaranteed not to overcook and they flavor up faster. Also lets you get the other pot rolling again a lot faster

if you need more spice, just add more spice.

Not sure how else I can explain why I wouldn't change the water every time. Adding more spice to the new is not the same as using the already seasoned water.
If some people change after every sack, more power to them I guess .

I don't think anyone changes after every sack.
Now after 3 or 4, maybe they have a case
