I'm spending my anniversary in the Atlanta area and we want to find the best steak we can get. We are willing to travel to buckhead or midtown but would prefer to stay in East Cobb. So far we have heard Aspen, Stony River, and Hal's. Help!

eta we are willing to travel further if worth it.

Stony River. Aspen is nothing special.

Hal's in Buckhead or Kevin Rathbun.

Bone's (never been) is one that a friend of mine highly recommends.

And of course, you have your usual suspects for national chain steakhouses that are excellent as well: Ruth's, Morton's, De Frisco's, Captial Grille, etc.

Bones (personal favorite and hard to beat atmosphere for a special occasion. As close to an old school New York steakhouse as you are gonna find in Atlanta.)
Rathbuns
Hals
Chops

Stoney River is slightly better than Aspen. Both aren´t out of this world, but are decent.

As to Stoney River, go to John´s Creek, and not Roswell.

Chicago´s on Johnson Ferry and Shallowford in East Cobb, is supposed to be pretty good. I had a good prime rib there, about three years ago.

You may want to ring Seed and Zeal (both are off Johnson Ferry near Merchant´s Walk in East Cobb), or check out their menus online. If they do steak, I´m sure it´ll be north of average.

If your budget would allow, I would suggest either McKendricks, Hal's or Bones.

You would not be dissappointed.

If on a budget then stick with Stoney River.

This. Stoney River offers the best value. I haven't been in years, but the one in Roswell was really good and the prices were reasonable.

If price is not a factor, some of the other recs are good.

Check out Cabernet in Alpharetta (it´s on Windward Parkway).

This should do just fine.

Pampas, I think it's the best steakhouse in the whole city.

I've been to every prime steakhouse in the city (I think).

If you want to stay north-ish, Hals, Bones or Chops. Hals is my favorite restaurant.

If you both like steak equally, Bones.
If one of you prefer something different than traditional chops/cuts, Rathbuns.

I agree except that Bones is my favorite. I love getting there a few minutes early and having a cocktail and cheese crackers at the bar. The cheese crackers are incredible.
