BB's Café's half and half (shrimp & oyster). Very good.

Other than that, I've tried others with much disappointment. Most give you few shrimp with HUGE, thick pieces of bread.

Tried one at LA Crawfish on Richmond a while back. Shrimp were seasoned and fried to perfection. Lots of 'em, too. However, they dressed it with some sort of relish crap, which pretty much ruined it for me.

Probably, if you go there, get the shrimp poboy, and are specific as to how you want it dressed, it'll be pretty good.

Haven't been to LA Crawfish and I've lived here over 10 years. Yeah there is something wrong with me

Calliope's gets a lot of love. Never been but from the pictures the bread at least looks closer to NOLA bread than the huge bread you usually get in Houston. Comments have people comparing favorably to NOLA.

Pretty sure the people that own it came over from NOLA after Katrina.

My understanding is that good poboys don't exist outside of New Orleans so the answer is "none."

They do but 99.9% of what you get that far out of NO is just some bullshite using the name and culture to make a buck.
Hell you can get a good poboy down the bayou, that ain't new Orleans.

Isn't there a new place on Heights? Also is Calliope the place downtown ? They had a decent one if so.

New Orleans doesn't even have the best poboy in Louisiana.

It took me 4 years of living down the street from that place before I ate there. Not a poboy but the sandwiches are delicious.

It's called The Cajun Stop now and this is my vote for best poboy in Houston. Actually, my favorite cajun food near downtown not just poboys.

Calliope is now called Cajun Stop. Them and BB's are probably the best in Houston.

Mozelle's

It closed down due to a shitty location. Damn shame because it was the best cajun food in Houston and James was a good old Louisiana/LSU boy through and through.

Well, I can't remember where he went, but he went to a popular/well regarded local po boy spot in NOLA and copied exactly what they did for shrimp/roast beef/catfish/oysters...ingredients, seafood source, recipe, etc. He even has Leidenhiemer bread overnighted.
