Lichas Cantina is awesome for interior mexican cuisine and they make really good rita's.
Curras Grill is also another good interior mexcian cuisine, but it's more of a dive.
Easy Tiger is a must - not the best food you'll find but very good. They have a great beer selection and a nice outdoor patio that overlooks Waller Creek.
Draught House Pub - Go here for drinks...they usually have some food truck out there. It's an awesome pub in the middle of a neighborhood.
ABGB - Really good pizza, but they only serve the beer that they brew, and it's sort of meh.
Pinthouse Pizza - Similar to ABGB but has a lot more to choose from beerwise and also has craft brews that they don't brew themselves.
Barley Swine is awesome, but very $$$$
Hopdoddy - gourmet hamburgers. Get a medium rare burger there. I don't think I've ever had a better burger anywhere else.
Torchy's Tacos - I'm sure you've heard of this place. Everything is good but you must get the queso.
Takoba - Modern Mexican. Their Al Pastor torta is awesome.
Hit up Rainey Street and East 6th (east of I35) if you want to avoid the college / high school / tourist crowd. Plus, all the places in those areas have a lot more character.
Check and see if Alamo Drafthouse Theater has a showing for Master Pancake (comedy group who mocks movies).
