I used to skip right past the line for food, grab a soup bowl and bottle of Tabasco and head into the cafeteria seating area where they always had a huge pot of seafood gumbo simmering ALL YOU CAN MOTHERfrickING EAT.

I would eat 5-6 bowls at least and have a stack of crab claws piled up on the table.

This was back in the late 1980s and I would sit and talk to the woman who made it because she knew who I was good times. she was as nice as can be and made a mean pot of gumbo.

I never EVER got tired of it. Do they even make gumbo anymore in the cafeteria? Do they still load it down with crab claws?

I "dined" in the Highland cafeteria in the early 90s, and there was no seafood gumbo, good or otherwise. The highlight of the semester food calendar was steak night, 'cause you could get seconds. And unlimited bacon in the AM, if you bothered to get up early enough to eat breakfast.

Best cafeteria on campus! It was called the Pentagon cafeteria but it's been changed to The 5. I freaking loved eating at the Pentagon but I don't recall any seafood gumbo. We had chicken and sausage when I attended.

Nothing beat a good meal at The 'Gon. In the mid 2000's I don't remember any gumbo, but they had some good stuff every now and ten

About 1 month ago my FIL made a chicken, sausage, turkey neck duck and Andouille gumbo. I told him it was the best gumbo I ever ate and I was serious. He cooks gumbo often and that one was the best, although they are all pretty damn good.

As far as a restaurant. TARC country store in Houma, I think they only serve it on Wednesdays but its very good and consistent.

meh, my mother made better gumbo than the cafeteria. used actual crab meat, not a bunch of shells and claws.

i bet Cory Bahr makes a mean gumbo up there in your old stomping grounds.

I don't know if I've ever seen gumbo at Cotton..but I'm sure he can. I had the gumbo at Waterfront grill last week. It's ridiculously horrible.

so you do remember it! i dont care your mom used to buy the fake lump crabmeat and put that in it.

mung, you're crazy. don't you remember the little crab claw mountains i'd make on the table? the 'guy across the hall' and i would destroy some gumbo.

I thought overall, the food was good back then. They seemed to have people that knew how to cook working in the cafeterias.

Now that I think about it, the duck gizzard gumbo at Savanne Neuvelle was pretty tasty. Also, Charlie G's duck and andouille gumbo hit the spot.
