I've got a hankerin' and I don't have the time nor requisite skill to make my own. Preferably of the poultry and sausage variety.

What's the FDB's opinion?

Preferably somewhere in Mid-City/LSU/Garden District area, but it's whatever.

Duck and sausage at chimes, and drank something purple with it.

I've had their duck and sausage before and like it. Was wondering if there's a place I wasn't thinking of or wouldn't think of that has a good bowl.

Capital city downtown used to have a decent bowl. It's s little thinner than I like but was pretty good.

Struobes has a good one

I like Dempsey's. Do they still have a BR location?

ETA: Portobello's gumbo is pretty good.

It is expensive, but Juban's chicken, duck and andouille gumbo is excellent. About $10 a bowl, but it is dark and rich.

I may get bashed for this but I picked up some chicken and sausage gumbo from Jambalaya Shoppe recently and it was pretty good.

It was the Gonzales location. I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Smokin Aces BBQ has had decent gumbo in the past (usually when it turns cold), but I'm not sure if they have it on the menu now.

I don't get the hate for Jambalaya Shoppe (at least the downtown and Gov't location) I enjoy their jambalaya for what it is and their gumbo is a little light in color and thin for my tastes, but it has pretty nice flavor.

Oh, very nice. I remember seeing them advertise for it. Might have to get a bowl for lunch tomorrow if they have it.

I had a very good bowl of dark rich gumbo at the Perkins jambalaya shoppe location a few weeks back. Went another time and it was much lighter.

Once in awhile I get to agree with Catman. Ouncy makes a great gumbo and he will sell it by the gallon too if you ask.
