Ok, what do you think is/was the best beer ever produced in Louisiana? Past or present.

For me, it's Rikenjaks Old Hardhead. I used to love this brew. Wish it was still around. Second would probably be Acadian's Pilsener, another brewery from the mid 90's that's gone now. I think Acadian Brewing was ahead of their time. Their beers were very hoppy and folks didn't seem to care for that back then.

How bout you?

Marsala Beverage in Monroe does an amazing Bud Light. Here recently they've been doing one with a hint of lime. It's top notch as well.

Beeradvocate says Maibock / Helles Bock, but also barleywine is a beer style (not wine).

Best crawfish trays we ever had were from Jax. I gotta dig them out of my grandfathers outdoor kitchen sometime.

Here's the old discussion b/w LSUBoo and Catman88 arguing when and if it was a barleywine

I think it tastes like a glorified malt liquor. Not a fan. Only big bottle they make that I enjoy is Abbey Ale

See, I've always enjoyed it. Don't have it that often though and can't drink many of them.

I still havent tried it since they started bottling it. I think that was when they changed the recipe if I recall.

That makes sense because IIRC, you can only buy barley wine in half kegs. They wanted to capitalize on the name so they had to change the recipe maybe.

I'm just speculating of course.

You can buy barley wines. Stone Old Gaurdian is one I can come up with off the top of my head. I remember hearing a rumor that LA had an ABV limit on what can be bottled. Not sure if theylowered the abv on Andygator to allow bottling or if the law was changed...or if it was even true?
