I heard they opened some Irish place in the old Stan's but I have never been. However, you are correct, there is a lack of tap beer joints downtown. the bums are getting out of control. It's time for a round up.

Annnddddd it's closed. Century Irish Gastropub I believe is what it was called, same people that own all the Agave's. We made it there a few times and the food was always great but they never had anyone there the nights we went. They had alot going on in that building and I'm assuming lost a ton of $$$. The top floor was a bar that was supposed to attract the higher end crowd/young professionals but was dead the two times we stopped in, the bottom floor had the Irish restaurant on the patio side, and the opposite side was a banquet/reception hall that was pretty nice but was probably too small for much of anything over 30-50 people.

Damn, downtown is dying quickly. Until, Fightville across Congress is cleaned up, downtown will still attract low lives looking to commit crimes. I have heard rumblings of revamping downtown, but honestly don't see it until Fightville is cleaned up. Unless I am going to Tsunami, Pamplona, Pop's, or Festival, I don't go down there.

Way back when there was a bar called Roothog's in downtown. Probably going back to 2003 or so. What's in that spot these days?

No, its currently a homeless hangout. They camp under that tree. Just what we need less of!

Is all this homelessness pretty recent? I lived there back in 03 and rarely saw any homeless people downtown.

Yeah, its become a shite-hole bad. Downtown has several homeless shelters that seem to attract them. Even the south side over by the mall is bad. There are 3 that live behind my office building.

Wow, I didn't know all this. Sounds like a mini epidemic that could get larger.

Maurice City Bar... from the car to the bar I got approached by 2 dudes trying to pimp their Ho's and 3 homeless guys wanting my change or more.

Maybe I just didn't pay much attention before but I started noticing how bad it is around 2 years ago. They're there day or night as well, for the past 6 months or so there's the same bum sleeping on a bench almost across from Pop's every single time I go downtown. Seems Lafayette PD does decent keeping them away for Downtown Alive and other events most times but noticed alot of them when Bayou Roundup was in town last month with all the cars lined up on Jefferson, they kinda blend in for Festival.

Hard to tell the difference between the homeless and 75% of those attending Festivals.

There was a Mello Joy cafe that was near where Pamplona is. No longer there?
