Any of y'all cooking in or going to the Bayou BBQ Bash in Morgan City this weekend? They're expecting over 50 teams again this year, so it should be a good one.

Anyone who voluntarily goes to Morgan City on the weekend needs to get checked out.

Noted. It's a good thing you were here to remind me not to wander around, aimlessly, sightseeing all of Morgan City. I guess I'll just have to stick to my initial plans of staying on site for the competition, trying to win the thing. Do you still recommend that I get checked out?

My statement wasn't open to interpretation. In Arabian that means yes.

I guess I can fire my interpreter now, but still have to pay for your statement translation. Which was....
"I'm an arse".

Where is it being held? I wouldn't mind passing by to enjoy some competition bbq, irregardless of what fricknut says.

Good luck btw.

It's under the 90 bridge, near the Atchafalaya River. Nice set up, and protected from weather. Thanks.

I'll bite (pun intended), how does checking out the food at something like this work? Just walk up to some guys that are cooking and say "that smells good can I have some?" Being a BBQ event I suspect it will all smell good.

Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like that, and it's probably the most frustrating part about these for spectators. A competition like Hogs is different than most regular bbq competitions in that the teams are all also vendors. At a regular contest, the cooks are just cooking for judges. The exception being that a competition might have a people's choice category. Most of the cooks are friendly, and don't mind chatting a little. As long as you're not getting in the way during the crucial stages. I don't mind visitors coming up and asking questions, and I sometimes even ask for a hand from you. Plus I'll let you try my stuff after each turn in.

One more thing......there's also a chance that you can eat a lot of this food, for free. If you show up early enough on the Saturday morning of the contest, the promoter or head judges might need more judges.

It's fully sanctioned and recognized by the Jack Daniels World BBQ Championship, the American Royal World BBQ Championship, and the National BBQ Championship in Meridian Texas......seems pretty legit to me. KCBS contests will also pull judges from the street if they're short.

I've got a buddy going down to compete. I did this one 2 years ago. Nice set up under the bridge. Good luck! (And btw this is a super legit event.)
