I'm looking to make some fresh bread this weekend. Any suggestions on recipes?

Yes, indeed: white bread recipe
That recipe has instructions for a stand mixer, but you can certainly knead it by hand. Just keep kneading until you can stretch a tiny bit of dough into a translucent windowpane between your fingers. Homemade bread can be heavy if not sufficiently kneaded, and the usual guidelines (number of minutes to knead) are useless...what matters is how well kneaded it is, not how long-kneaded. The "windowpane" test lets you know when the gluten is sufficiently developed.

If you're a novice baker, go to the public library and check out Peter Reinhart's "Bread Baker's Apprentice". Lots of good photos. Reinhart also has a Craftsy video class online for artisan bread: LINK

I bake weekly...at least I do when it isn't 104 degrees outside.

Google "24 hour no-knead bread". Super easy and fun way to get artisan type crusty bread.

I study food & culture, blog about food, teach some baking classes for pocket change, and do some food-related voluntarism. (besides a non food day job)
