Acme Oyster house is looking at Gulf Shores site.
News story
Don't get why this place (Acme) is so popular.

It's really not that bad. Do I go away of my way to eat there? No. Can I find a good meal there? Sure.

I wonder how the Original Oyster House is going to feel about that. I remember a few years back the owner got all up in arms about another restaurant with the name Oyster House in it. I worked for OOH while in college and personally don’t think their food is all that great.

They would do great in that area. Not alot of competition.
I'm not a huge fan, but I know they do some stuff pretty well. A little pricey, but it is good.

It would be the first REAL restaurant in GS. It would be slammed.

ACME would make a killing there. Much like Lamberts.

We went while we were down there in May and it definitely wasn't great. I would have rather gone back to Sea N Suds again. That place was good and cheap. $8/dozen oysters

Wentzells has 25 cent oysters and $5 pitchers at Happy Hour.

which one? The one on the Causeway is not as good as it used to be in my opinion. It was always a good time in its old spot down there by the battleship. Since they switched locations after Hurricane Katrina because of the damage, it just hasn't been the same. The food isn't terrible but I feel like the Original Oyster House has become overrated. I've never been to the one in Gulf Shores. No need to really

I'd like to have a stake in a well managed Acme in the Gulf Shores area.

No doubt. The Sandestin one at Baytowne Wharf seems to be knocking it in the head. I imagine a Gulf Shores location would do as well or better.

The food at ACME to me has been consistent over the years. They lost my business when they started charging $18 for a dozen chargrilled oysters. You can GFY with those prices.

Frankly, I've never understood why many of the New Orleans restaurants haven't located in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach long ago. As much grief as the area catches from people on here about a lack of restaurants, it seems places like Acme or even Dragos would kill it in the area. Heck, it would do well simply by being the go to place from visitors from Louisiana much less other visitors in the area. Seems like an untapped gold mine for New Orleans restauranteurs. Having said that, I guess local politics do play some role as well when you have people like the Oyster House owner and probably other local places complaining about competition.
