We have some intense people on this board. This has probably been mentioned before, but now that we're post crest [at least in BR], how about a discussion about why it is equally, if not more dangerous, to have a fast falling river. We've heard about mud slides on the river side of the levees, due to saturated ground not being able to stand up to the suddenly reduced pressure of not having water on top of it. I have heard that both Morganza and Bonnet Carre are going to be very slowly closed gate by gate to try and keep the falling river levels at a slow controlled rate so as to minimize this occurence -- and that the length of time to close the gates on those spillways will be something like 10 times more than it took to open them.

Thoughts?

The flow rate at Red River landing is at 1.59 mcfs today. I would expect some gates will be closed by the weekend.
