A Buddy of mine working for the state has been cruising the river around angola prison. He was telling me about having flying carp jumping in the boats. I guess they will be all over Lake Ponchartrain and the northshore rivers now.

That was hilarious. If they make it down to Houma I think Jeffie Pants needs to make an appearance I can't imagine wiping out with that spiked breast plate though. Seems like a good way to get some puncture wounds. Not to mention that dude is nuts to be skiing though flooded timber like that.

are they edible? I'm from North Louisiana and we would eat Gar on occasion , had to know how to clean it but we ate them. some of those carp look real meaty.

I've never had one, but there are lots of articles and even a campaign going to get people to eat them.

Supposedly they are edible and like Alx said the LADWF is pushing a campaign to get people to eat them. They are calling them silver fin to make them sound more appealing than carp. I will definitely try one if I ever get a chance.

They are supposedly pretty good to eat. Lots of bones though.

Does anyone know if those fish can be caught with a fishing pole or do they just eat vegetation? They are really plentiful so if they do bite a lure/bait, it would make for a fun fishing trip

I'd love to travel the river on a USCG boat with a .50 cal mounted on it and long long chains of ammo... could be a blast!

Filter feeders. Would be an accident to catch them on a hook unless snagging.

Wouldn't be a bad way to practice for duck season either. Seems like much more fun than skeet.

Yeah, through flooded timber is fricking insane. Good way to get paralyzed or killed. No thanks.

And I've seen people catch them with just landing nets attached to the side of their boats. Just drive around in the boat, fish jump in nets. Wild.

Driving around with shrimp skimmers in the up or just at the surface would catch a shite ton of them.

Just found this video. Man a case of beer and this could be one hell of a time. Just drive around a fill the box. These guys had 20 jump in the boat in 4 minutes. Not sure my kids would be able to go fresh water boating without foot ball gear on

looks like fun to me
