It was cover art for an anti-Valentine's Day compilation CD I was making for a friend. First song was this lesser-known Concrete Blonde track glorifying all things love "non many-splendored" in nature.

In addition to her musical endeavors, the lead singer (Johnette) has had some modest success with fine art as well. She's got a rather obvious penchant for imagery that juxtaposes life/death/love/loss/etc... The cover art for CB's Mexican Moon album was taken from a series of panels she painted after spending time photographing life/people in rural central Mexico in the weeks leading up to Dia de los Muertos.

And for my final segue...

One of my favorite concert posters of all time...

It's the work of New Orleans artist Vance Kelly. If you enjoy a less mainstream, more macabre (yet slick) brand of illustration - click on over to vancekelly.com and fill your head up.
