Which team should advance in this scenario?

So a couple of months ago an issue was brought up in my league that the DEF/ST should include kickoff and punt returns as 6 points. Yahoo has it set up so that kick off/punt returns do not count towards your DEF/ST. It's a 12 team league, and only 4 guys were in favor of this while the rest of the league said nothing. The issue was not brought up again by our commissioner. Well, now I advanced to the playoffs because I scored 9 points higher overall than the next guy who has the same record as me. The commissioner brought this issue up and said because the guy has had the Broncos Def/ST all season long, he should have 12 more points and should advance ahead of me in the playoffs. Now he is leaving it up for the league to vote who they think should advance.

What does the fantasy board think?

$50 buy-in and it's my work league which makes it even more awkward.

I run three leagues and if we have an issue with scoring, it is done before the draft and through the poll feature on Yahoo as a great way to document it. If we don't get enough votes (more than half the league), it doesn't get changed, no matter the level participation.

It shouldn't be left to a vote at this time.

I don't see how these issues ever arise.. But since nothing was decided a few months ago I don't think anything should change now(even though I think in general those TDs should count for special teams).

ETA: did he also go look at every D you started each week to see if your team got any TDs?

Thanks that's how I feel. And yes, I started SF each week and they did not have any returned TDs this year.

Changes like these should be made before the season starts. It's too late at this point. This is BS and I'd be pissed if I were you.

This.

This came up the first year in one of my leagues. It's now the 3rd year in this league. We had it set up to where the TDs count for the returner but not the yardage. This caught some shite on a game where Sproles had like 120 return yards but no TDs. We put it up for a vote and the compromise was to leave it as is.

You shouldn't be making changes like that this late in the season. Even if you don't like the league scoring, people have had about four months to see what they are.

I agree that the TD's should count, but the time to address that has come and gone.

It's amazing how much shady shite goes down come playoff time.

I said it in another thread today. Rules should not be changed mid-season. Especially if this was already brought up earlier and nothing was done.

I don't even think this should be put to a league vote either. The other playoff teams would vote for the perceived weakest team, and non-playoff teams could be lobbied to vote one way or another since it doesn't affect them.

You should be raising hell.

I agree and it seems pretty much everyone here sees this issue the same way I do. I think the rules should have been adjusted when this was brought up, but the commish said he dropped the ball and thought it wouldn't make a difference. And the guy behind me has a much weaker team. He hasn't put up over 100 points since week 5.

I want to, but this is a work league so like I said it's very awkward for me.

Why I don't play in work leagues.

Smart decision. This will most likely be my last year regardless of what's decided.

Another question....would the addition of ST scores have changed any the outcome of any matchups this season in your league?

Good point. If they vote for adding them in, I would tell them to go back and rescore every matchup that would have had those TDs and compile a new ranking. Of course it wouldn't help you but it might have some effect on the outcome for others.

Good point, and no it wouldn't have changed the outcome of any matchups. Most teams looked into this when it was brought up and the guy ranking behind me even said it wouldn't change his record but he still wanted to lose by less points.

Unless its just some wild scoring mistake that needs to be corrected, all scoring changes should be made before the season starts.

Do you have any isssues with the Commish or do you think he's doing this just because the other team is weaker? Either way, it's bullshite!

No issues with the commish he is an extremely nice guy. He's not even in the playoffs but the guy I advanced over is one of his best friends and I know he complained about it.
