does your league give credit to DEF/ST for a punt or kickoff return for a TD?

in a heated debate with league members. Looking for references here.

Of course.

If the league does yardage for kick returners I could see a scebario where the td would just go to the player though.

no return yardage

this is a 1st year league..

there was a situation that came up after Royal returned those 2 KO/PR for a TD

league commish didnt assign points to either the player or DEF/ST when he set up the league...Honest mistake

a team ended up losing because of it(gyno, lol)

but from here on out, we are trying to change the rule, well the league voted to only give it to the player.

now ive been doing FFB for 12 years now, and i have never been in a league that hasnt given it to DEF/ST...some leagues both, but always the DEF/ST

so im just trying to see how common this is, if it happens at all.

i thought for sure, in all leagues, the DEF/ST gets points

why would it be called D/ST if ST TD's don't count?

if it was in the rules going into the season I dont think you can change it mid season.

I would suggesst changing it to have KO/PR tds count for the defense/ST though in the offseason.

this isnt TDxx with mccain operating here

also the owners arent tight asses about shite like this

someone needs to get points for it IMO...in fact they already changed it to just the player, im pushing to give points to each

in this case, dont you think it would be the fairest thing?

considering no one can bitch and say "i drafted so and so because i thought they would get points for return TDs"?

keep in mind that something has already been changed to where players are the only ones getting points

Just my opinion, but at least one individual player should be credited, + or -, on every TD. I know on a turnover, unless you use IDPs the DST is the only one gaining points. But at the same time, the offensive player who turned it over is getting docked for the giveaway.

The goal is obviously to be consistent. And IMO awarding the ST TD to both the returner and the DST is the most consistent way to do it. Both the returner and the blockers are responsible for the score in the same way that both the QB and the WR/RB/TE are responsible for a Pass/Rec TD.

yes.

Every league I have ever played in has given the DEF/ST 6 points for ST TD's. For the first time we voted to give the player 6 points also (no bonus for yards, or credit for return yards to player or DEF/ST).

ETA: It is working out fine. Itmakes some of the more marginal guys (and Reggie Bush) a little more valuable.

anyone who goes into the draft and doesn't know the scoring system of their league has no room to complain

to me, it was always understood that DEF/ST got return TDs

on the other hand, i dont draft players because they may be good returners, so i cant speak for anyone else.

+1

This is rule No. 1 in every draft help guide I've ever read. If there was a question and it wasn't settled prior to the draft, it's on every owner and no one over anyone else.

That said, this rule has been subject to discussion and change in the leagues in which I've participated. In the old days, we awarded 6 to the individual and 6 to the special teams unit. After Dante Hall went off for the Rams a few years back, we changed it to where we now only award points to D/ST for TDs scored on kick returns. If you draft Eddie Royal for the purpose of getting kick return points, then YOU and only YOU need to make sure that your league awards points to individuals for such feats.

Enough said.
