If it's anything like the free agent auctions we had last year, everyone will be out of money after the first 12 players are picked

Never been apart of a auction league either. I've done a few mock drafts and it seems cool enough.

On a different note, I did a mock draft yesterday. End up with Dez,Gronk & Jeffrey during my first three picks.

Thinking about an auction league keeps me up at night.

How long did the mock take?

frick it. If my spot hasn't been taken then I'll do the auction league too.

Didn't realize it would be the first auction league for so many. I've never done one either

25 minutes tops. People don't care about completing the draft. They just want to see what the top 5 picks will looks like.

Btw an online ESPN real auction isn't longer or much longer than an ESPN snake draft. 2-3 hours.

The thing about auction though is once you spend your budget, you don't have to stick around. So if you fill up your roster in an hour or hour and half, you can cut out. A snake you have to stick around unless you want to autodraft your last few picks.

I see half the teams doing this myself included

Also, there are some good auction strategy guides online to review.

I don't mind sharing a few takeaways from my experience last year in auctions - aside from the online guides:

1. You will bring in a value chart, but note that auctions are fluid. Your chart may say Bell is worth $55 - he could go for $60, he could go for $50. Same with any other player.

2. It's a tendency to want to bid up players to make other owners use more budget. Solid, but be careful because it backfires a lot. It's very easy to get stuck with that player and blow your whole initial strategy.

3. Along with #1 and #2, be wary of going off a downloaded value chart only. You may see player A is valued at $30, but is about to go for $23. Sounds like a steal to bid $24 right? Make sure you actually want that player and he fits into your team plans. I got caught in first auction bidding on a WR that I really didn't want because the value looked so good. Then after I won the bid, I cursed myself because I just wasted budget on a player I had no plans on purchasing.

shite, this was the case in last years auctions too.

9 of 12 teams are done after so long and the remaining 3 "patient" owners spend the last hour outbidding each other on solid - but backup - players. It's a strategy that can work, but I dunno.

What happens if we run out of money and our roster isn't full?

It won't let you do that. $1 will be reserved for each roster spot.

I'm good with that. I prefer 7pm cst or earlier start time if it's on a Sun-Wed. Thu/Fri/Sat evenings are less restrictive.

Propose a date/time and shoot out a league email to see who has objections.
