Is TE the best way to differentiate your FFL team?

My experience is limited to the 10 or so leagues I've played in where TEs were picked in the first round or two(gronk and Graham) but I can't remember a time where a team who grabbed a TE early has won the league. I don't necessarily think there's a correlation. Seems every year there's a tight end who goes undrafted or really late that finishes way up there. If you can find that guy you can really differentiate your team.

Right I think hitting on one of the sleeper TEs is the difference. In the years I got Graham, Cameron, Thomas, Kelce, and Eifert for cheap it was a nice boost. Even Reed was had for cheap last year due to injuries.
Gronk is the only one I consider early, but never do.

You can make this same argument about any position- there are always guys who are afterthoughts at draft time that end up being excellent fantasy options.
I drafted Gronk with the 12th pick in 2 leagues last year- one where I was a fringe playoff team, and another where I dominated wire to wire. He's just one pick out of many, but a team with Gronk can definitely be championship caliber

I generally look for Value TEs like others have said.
However in a PPR league, if you can get a high value guy in say the 4th round, after picking 3 WRs...yeah it can make a big difference. That's if you buy into 0RB strategy.

Just seems to me that if you're looking at differential value by position then TE is a great place to look. Of course as far as WRs go, Julio and Brown are in their own league but there's a cluster after that. At TE you've basically got one elite option and 2-3 top options after that.

If you're picking Gronk early, he's your TE in name only, you're taking him to be your WR1 or WR2 and paying as such. So then you're hoping one of the WRs you take later breaks out, just as in the reverse you're hoping for a breakout TE.
I don't think drafting gronk puts you at any advantage or disadvantage

I'd take my chances finding a breakout WR or RB over a breakout TE. JMO.
I think it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

I've had pretty good success identifying a TE for a breakout year lately, its also a less costly miss. If you swing and miss then you're right there with most of the league that doesn't really love or hate their TE. Outside of K, its probably the position most are apathetic about.

Yea I said I didn't think there was a correlation. I've never taken a TE that high and I'm usually winning leagues so maybe that's why IMO teams who take TE in the first couple rounds haven't won.

I picked gronk in early second last year and ran away with the title.

4 years ago i drafted gronk 11th and Graham 14th..won the league with Gronk in my flex. I outscored everyone in the league by a shite ton at those 2 slots

You win leagues with luck in the injury department and how you draft in the middle rounds. Just don't bust on your first round picks and you can compete.
Drafting Gronk (or any TE) doesn't include or exclude anyone from championship contention.
