How long have y'all been playing Fantasy Football? Who was your first ever pick?

I've been playing since 1999, first pick was Ricky Williams .
How long has everyone been playing?
What year was your first league?
I have a cousin who has been playing since 1986, everything was done by hand and the commissioner had to call newspapers around the country to get stats for every teams players . You wouldn't know if you won your game until the middle of the next week. Pretty wild.

First pick was Terrel Davis in 1998. It was a thing of beauty
quote:
. Terrell Davis, Denver (1998): While his career was short lived due to knee injuries, Davis did make some serious noise in his time between the white lines. His best statistical season came in 1998 when he became the fourth running back ever to reach the 2,000-yard mark. He also scored an impressive 23 total touchdowns and finished with 361 fantasy points. Davis rushed for 56 scores in his first four seasons -- that is a mark that no member of the Hall of Fame has matched -- so he could land in Canton in the future

i remember trying to start a Fantasy Basketball League in middle school. i had calculated all the major stats to be equalized (so a point = an assist = a rebound, etc) and presented it to my friends. they looked at me like a crazy person
i think our first FFB league was 2 years later
i remember a teacher sophomore year threatening to turn us in for gambling one time
i don't remember my 1st pick but i think it may have been garrison hearst

I think since around 2000 or 2001 with a league when I was in middle school that only counted touchdowns. Think the first pick was Eddie George.

What's funny is that the NFL initially frowned upon it calling it a form of gambling. The players would denounce fantasy.
Now they embrace the shite out of it.

1996 was my first year. I cannot remember who my first pick was. I know it was a running back (Bettis maybe). I do recall that I got Marvin Harrison who was a rookie. Too bad it wasn't a keeper league.

1993 - Ended with the first pick in the draft and took Emmitt Smith
We had each player score his game using the Monday and Tuesday USA Today. On Tuesday morning each player had to cal the commish with their score and if there was a discrepancy then the commish would go score the game.
Back then we gave very few bonus points...6 pts for all TDs, -2 for INT, +1 for sack, some bonus points but not a bunch
I think we went electronic in like 2001 or so
