I've decided to not even entertain chasing a high end closer this year. Every time I do, the guy ends up going to shite.

So, if you're waiting on RPs or bargain shopping, what do you look for?

High K rate, low walk rate?
Guys who just get decent innings with low ratios?
Flamethrowers? Crafty, versatile guys?
Save vampires or closers-in-waiting (or guys that have closed before elsewhere but aren't now)?
Old guys, young guys?

I'll hang up and listen.

High K rate is always a good thing for relievers.

Also identifying shaky closers and finding their not-as-shaky set-up man.

Due to injuries, sucking, and trades there is always a good bit of turnover.

K/9 and K/BB are good starting points. It is pretty obvious, but guys like Cody Allen, Steve Chisek, and Sean Doolittle should be really good.

and frat does draft all the closers

Obviously ERA and WHIP with track record above all, which usually corresponds with a good K/9. There are guys who aren't sexy and on mediocre teams who stand out. If you're in a Holds league then draft solid Holds guys who could become closers as insurance (i.e. Broxton and Ottavino).

Yeah - I've been looking at three year averages, and targeting set-up guys with great ratios. I had guys like Addison Reed, Sergio Romo and Jim Henderson last year.

I really don't want 5.00+ ERAs and blown saves again this year, and I don't want to draft closers from non-shite teams in the 5th round, so I may just avoid closers all together, unless it's a speculative last few rounds pick.
