As the Commissioner, how do you encourage trades?

Because there literally has been like 2 trades in the past 4 years in my league, I have essentially just reduced members and bench spots to make it to where there are useful people on the wire or FA.

How do yall get more trades to happen? Too many people want your RB1 for their 3 WR4's or your WR1 and RB1 for their DEF. Ludicrous trades proposals.

You don't. Not really. Maybe you can try to set something up that makes communication easier, but if people don't like trading then that's just the way it is.

Get better owners.
Have keepers.
Have bottom feeder penalties.
Have a tournament with the non playoff teams for a winner take all.

none of that promotes trades. there is plenty of action on the wire and FA. but it is pulling teeth to get someone to trade a 1 for a 1 straight up

Are you high? Keepers don't promote trades?

Trading has been replaced with uncovering waiver gems partly in thanks to the internets & availability of information that wasn't available even 10 years ago

Ditch snake, go to auction. With a snake draft, a lot of rosters will be similar. In an auction you will have some teams that are completely top heavy and then some who saved money and have no studs but a ton of depth. Teams are more balanced in snake drafts usually. Auctions could have teams with 4 elite receivers on the same team that would never happen in a snake.

Not only will it open up trades, it's just a far superior format IMO unless you're doing a dynasty league.

Why would you increase the amount of useful players in the FA pool if you're trying to encourage trades?

You realize that does the opposite of what you want, right?

i do realize that. but then it was a 12 person league with 5 bench spots there still wasnt any trades. I have made it to now it isnt just the lucky draft is the winner.

You need a guy, the trade guy. I've got this guy in one of my leagues. Everyone in the league gets hit up by him, more than once. He said his goal this year is to trade every single player that he drafts.

Okay, maybe this is too much, I guess I'm just now seeing this.

I'm in a dynasty league and trading happens all the time, even in the off season. Rosters are large and we play with a lot of idps and the only draft is a rookie draft. Moves are made to not only to get talent, but to get under the salary cap as salaries change due to performance from one year to the next. It's also hard to get value on the waiver wire in our league, you put in a blind bid for the player and that bid becomes his salary. When everyone wants that player and waiver day is Thursday at noon someone always out bids you if they have the cap space.

I bend the brim in a perfect arch and wear it to block the sun. Not really a fan of those straight bill thug hats

This is correct! I have been running a 12 team auction league with restricted rosters for 4 years now. LOTS of action on waiver and a shite ton of trades (15-20) every year...and we charge 10$ for trades so it adds to payout
