You a Michael Moore fan?
My family works in oil and gas, I eat bloody steak, I own guns, I love Rocky IV, football, baseball.

Geeze SFP, what a hackish response...and nice quote mining. Here's his actual quote:
quote:
I am not going to deny that President Bush, Boehner, McCain, Cheney, and so on don't have their critics on the Political Board, but saying that they are ridiculed on the same level or even lower than President Obama is absolutely ridiculous.
You pull this out, and then drop a bunch of anti-Bush stuff there.
quote:
but saying that they are ridiculed on the same level or even lower than President Obama is absolutely ridiculous.
Why? That's Rex level hackery at best.

We could talk about the value of overt political displays on film in general? Otherwise this thread is too far gone.

Usually not a fan when the display is overtly political or religious, regardless of the direction. I don't mind a film having a point of view, but when it becomes clear it's just propaganda, I tune out.

As soon as either politics or religion is brought up on this site, the thread devolves into the mud wrestling match from Stripes, but with less tits.

But that propaganda in either case borders on delusion (I'm not saying this movie does specifically, I haven't seen it). And I like to see that delusion on display. so I'll watch it. I'm going to doubt any of my moral values are threatened.
I kind of want to see this to see if the 0% is justified honestly, as pointed above the completely inane Inconvenient Truth got a 93%. That's a pretty big difference.

Obama is not the most reviled person on there. George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and John Boehner are all held with much lower esteem.
You need to make room in there for Donald Rumsfeld. The man is a boob and principally responsible for the CF that is Iraq and Afghanistan today.
ETA: Damnit, this isn't the poli board.

I can see the entertainment value in that, but that's usually not my cup of tea. I tend to rank that up there with watching skateboarders bust their asses on stairs. At some point it's just too much, regardless of how funny.

Again...the difference in ratings should not be a surprise. The vast majority of people working in entertainment and media lean left, so work which leans left will be more likely to be viewed positively than work that leans right. Sometimes, regardless of the quality of the work, the message outweighs it. So when I see ratings like this (IC Truth so high, Dinesh's thing so low) I assume the truth is somewhere in the middle with numbers being skewed because of the message of both.

Fair enough.

But if the job of the critic is to be unbiased and only judge the movie based on it as a film experience, and we have ratings like this, then we can call into question to whole of the practice itself. At least that's a partial victory.

Probably. But still this

should at least continually be brought up. And that seems to be the premise of thread.
But what does this mean or film as a whole. Can we trust an honest assessment of critics? (In most cases, maybe).
Is there such a thing as "right leaning" cinema and what does it look like? Maybe too big for this thread, maybe not interesting for the board, but still a good place to go while keeping politics involved. As much as political discussion becomes problematic/chaotic, the only way to shape better discourse is to shape the discussion rather than shying away from it.
