Kinda new to Lafayette. Haven't been to either. Quickly looked at the reviews on Urbanspoon and it wasn't promising for Agave.

I have never been to Agave but Cafe Habana City is amazing and the real deal. You will not be disappointed if you go there.

Cafe Habana City easily has the better food. On my visit's to Agave, I usually limit myself to beer, maybe a side of quail if I want a bite.

Habana City - Owned by Cuban/Hispanics
Agave - Owned by the people who own Zeus (Mediterranian)
You will not be dissapointed with Cafe Habana City.

If you want a scene go to Agave. If you want good food, go to Cafe Habana.

Def Cafe Habana. I haven't been since the new location but the people on here seem to say its still fantastic.
We went to Agave downtown for lunch recently. I enjoyed some sort of seafood chimichanga. We only go when it's convenient and don't want to drop major money next door.

We ended up at Cafe Habana. Got one of each the spicy and mild tamales for apps, and I got the sandwich Cubano and my gf got Vaca Frita. Enjoyed it all. One of the better tamales I've had.
What kinda surprised me was that the waiter added 15% gratuity for a table of 2. That's the first time I can recall gratuity was automatically added for just 2 people. I didn't mind (ended up giving him 20%), but just found it odd.

I noticed them doing that before. I wonder if it isn't set to do it every single time. Bad form in my opinion, but the food is too good to keep me from going back.

In a nutshell. Agave is where you go with groups of people for margaritas and average mexican food. Cafe Habana City is where you go for good, different food. If you've never tried cuban I recommend it. And their mojitos are awesome.
Agave costs a lot more too.
