Another one that should be mentioned is 1983 Washington. They were highly touted by the national media and were ranked #4 I believe. They were manhandled much like Washington was again this year which may have lessened the crowd noise later in the game.

This is the game that set the pre-expansion attendance record of over 83,000 and overflowed the student section so much that the next season was the first one where students needed actual tickets to get in the game and could not just show their IDs.

The beginning of this game (until it became a blowout) was a top 10 loudest game I have heard since 1981.

'87 Ohio State still brings back memories. Earl Bruce was coach then, if memory serves, and as was mentioned earlier, refused to take the field first. So, Archer held LSU in the tunnel as well. The place was going absolutely bonkers with anticipation. Once the teams finally took the field, Ohio State chose to receive. Tom Tupa was OSU's QB and punter. He steps under center and the crowd took it up another notch. He steps back from under center, looks to the sideline and points to his ears like "I can't hear". Only fuels the crowd more. Absolutely incredible game, especially considering it was a day game. Sucked that it ended in a tie. All of the games mentioned are special but this was one of the most memorable for me.

Does anyone have a sound bite from 79 USC game?
It was the loudest I've heard on the radio.

The 1979 game vs. USC is always mentioned and with good reason ... probably the loudest.

Wasn't around for 79 USC. I've been to most of the games listed in the 2000's. A lot of people will say 79 USC, 03 UGA, and 07 UF as the loudest games. As a whole I'm sure they are right up there.

But there has never been a singular moment as loud as when we blocked the kick against Bama in 08. Not the loudest game. But definitely the loudest moment that stadium has ever experienced.

I remember LSU-UF 07 was pretty high up there. I would assume 59' Ole Miss game is pretty high up there too

i use to have an 8 track recording of John Fergeson calling the 79 USC game. If i ever find it i will post. I have the video of the game but it was broadcast by USC from a mostly sound proof press box room and does not begin to capture the noise.

The most engaged crowd I have ever seen at Tiger Stadium was 2003 UGA. Which was pretty amazing considering it was a day game.

I'll never forget after that 90+ yard screen pass for a TD tied it up and there should have been a let down; but when LSU took the field for the kick off, the crowd unanimously started cheering "LSU, LSU". It excited the players on the field, and you know the rest.

Bama 2012 > UGA 2003. UF 2007 was the loudest moment I can remember but wasn't the loudest game overall. Florida 97 was loud but we were leading a lot of that game.

I agree that it was probably louder in the early 80's because of "freer" use of alcohol before it was banned from bringing into the stadium. I remember having to pour a $30 bottle of Don Qu 151 Rum into a big plastic trash barrel because they caught us trying to sneak it in. I think it was 1983 when they banned bringing alcohol into the stadium because of so many fights. So, we bought a couple of "seal-a-meal" machines and made little "packets" of alcohol which we taped to our dates' thighs under their skirts. Problem solved.

1995 Auburn was crazy.

I went to a bunch of games in the 80s and 90s (although I missed the 88 season, which included the Earthquake game) - and this became the new benchmark for me. 2007 Florida and 2010 Bama (particularly the second half) were right there with it - I give the edge to Florida 2007, because it was so consistently loud for so long and there was the USC-Stanford thing.

Still a vivid, yet surreal memory...

03' Georgia wins IMO....you couldn't hear yourself yell in the student section...you just felt yourself yelling

I never went to any conference games prior to this year. This was our first year having season tickets. Took my bff to this game, as his first LSU game ever. I always wondered what it felt like to be on the field when TS was at it's loudest and what it is like. Being in the stands and not being able to hear yourself scream at the top of your lungs has to pretty close. I give this the trophy. Best LSU game I have ever been to. O7 Florida is a close second, but I have yet to see the entire stadium chant LSU LSU LSU after an opposing teams TD like they did in the 03 UGA game.

The pandemonium that occurred when Green came down with that pass in the North Endzone...

I didn't even get to see the actual catch, because as Mauk threw the ball I saw green and started doing this...

quote:

I remember people jumping and falling over on other people, hugging, high fiving, going apeshit. I wish I could have that experience all over again.

This game has a special place in my heart. Best LSU game I have ever been to. Special, Cpecial memory of experiencing it with my brother. I just remember tackling him in the SEZ when mauk threw that pass. I just was screaming and hugging... f'n awesome game.

Loudest games in LSU history.

man i think Metry is right on

Thanx. I'm telling you, for the Alashama MulliGumpneck game on 11/3, we sat in the SE corner above the SkoalSpitting Toothless Wonders.

The whole second half was as consistently loud as USC '79. When Landry caught the go-ahead TD right in front of us, it was at least as loud as the '08 Bama blocked FG (in the same end zone), if not louder.

If we had scored again or gotten ONE more first down and three kneel-downs, they'd be rebuilding the entire SEZ right now

I'm here to tell you, I have NEVER witnessed the ENTIRE DAY hype of that game - perfect weather, 175,000 tailgaters, campus in an absolute frenzy, the pregame pageantry and hype, and the ear-splitting consistent noise, esp. in the 2nd half.

My hope was to be able to scream "Rammer Jammer" at those bastards at the top of my freaking lungs after the game....
