quote:

Via the New York Post comes the news that NBC has scheduled no NHL games to be televised during the Olympics and the peacock’s attention will fully be on what’s happening in Pyeongchang:

The NHL is refusing to send its athletes to the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, because the league does not want to go dark for nearly three mid-winter weeks. But you know that by now.

What you probably are not aware of, however, is the NHL nevertheless will go dark across all NBC platforms between Feb. 7-26, during the Games. Last season, NBC and NBCSN combined to telecast 20 NHL games over the comparable period.

This is a network decision that several industry sources in touch with Slap Shots over the past two weeks interpret as nothing less than the league’s U.S. national television rights-holder giving a symbolic middle finger to Gary Bettman and the Board of Governors for withholding its players from one of NBC’s most important properties.

As Adam Sandler’s agent one said, “NBC stands for “Nothing But Cocksuckers””

Guess they want all of their networks available for Olympic coverage based on how much money they pay IOC for TV rights.

How much is NHL.TV this season? I was going to switch but my price for Center Ice dropped again this year.

Olympic coverage will absolutely smash anything in that point of the NHL regular season. Makes sense even without the "frick you" factor.

I agree with both sides. The NHL shouldn't stop the regular season for the Olympics and NBC will get better ratings from the Olympics. The NHL is still very much a regional based market so they won't hurt too bad

"NBC will show 0 Blackhawks games during the Winter Olympics."

I'm glad they're not going to the Olympics. Shutting down the season for three weeks and then hope one of your star players doesn't get hurt. It sucks.

NHL is working on their own network designed for cable cutters. They are going to lead the revolution in leaving the networks.

Wait why are they not going to the Olympics? I'm not a loyal hockey fan so it's the first I'm hearing of it.

I get not wanting to stop the season and possibly inure players, but the Olympics has got to be the largest international platform hockey gets
right?

Shouldn't the NFL be for growing the game?
