i could be potentially overreacting to betts first half, where he still is a 2.5 win player. we will see how he ends up doing

I'll be interested to see Fangraphs' trade value list next month.
Last July it went like this:
1. Trout
2. Correa
3. Bryant
4. Seager
5. Lindor
6. Rizzo
7. Betts
8. Arenado
9. Goldy
10. Harper
And the blurb of why Correa over Seager/Bryant:

And the blurb of why Correa over Seager/Bryant:
quote:
I will admit that I came into this exercise not expecting Correa to rank ahead of Bryant or Seager, and thought he’d be in a fight with Lindor instead, with potential versus performance being weighed to split that particular hair. But in compiling the list, I specifically sent the “Correa or Seager?” question to a bunch of friends in the game, and the responses overwhelmingly came back in favor of Correa, to the point where I had a hard time finding anyone willing to take Seager’s side in that debate. And, interestingly, the forecasts back up the industry on this one, as ZIPS projects Correa to post the highest WAR of any player on the list during the remainder of his team-control years with his current organization, and his projected +42 WAR over the next five years is just +0.3 WAR away from the lead even factoring out controllable years.

the only reason why i have mookie betts outside of the top 10, i think i would put him at 11 or 12, is that his bat just hasnt been there this year. the second it comes back, he is a fringe top 5 asset in my opinion fransisco lindor is a top 4 prospect because, while he is slumping like betts, he has still had his bat play this year and his defense at short is insanely valuable
My problem with this line of reasoning is that Betts is a better hitter than Frankie, and it's very likely that is the case moving forward. While Lindor is a fantastic defender at the 2nd most important position, Betts also plays gold glove defense at an underrated spot (right field in Fenway).
The next season Lindor outproduces Betts will be the first

I'd put Carlos Martinez in the top 10. Right now he's pitching like a top 10 pitcher in baseball (he's really the only above average player on the Cardinals) and he's 25 through September.
He's signed through his age 29 season at 11.5 mill per. Then has option years for age 30 & 31 season at 18.5 mill per. He's got to be in there.

I know he's hurt right now.
But why does Freddie Freeman not belong on this list?

This isn't the first time he's dealt with injuries like this and his contract isn't necessarily a bargain
He's a top 20 trade asset, I wouldn't say top 10

Surprised to see no Trae Turner

He really hasn't done anything to suggest that he belongs with these guys
He was great last year, this year has been a struggle though

I dunno.
I think there's room on the list for a corner infielder with .300/45/120 type ability, paid half a million a year, who can't hit UFA until 2022....

I'm not saying there isn't value, just that there isn't the same amount as those on the list
