He will need some low post help bad next season. How good are Rachal & Alexander the two 6'6" guys that are signed? Duop is a nice player but he needs help. I look forward to some good coaching next season, hopefully.

I agree Skillet, a big and some good coaching would go a long way. Bama is 7-5 in conference and I've seen them enough where I can honestly say they ain't that much more talented than us. Hell, Corban Collins plays a key role for them.

Compare both of those recruits coming in to Aaron Epps and wayde Simms. They would be pretty good players at McNeese, UL, and other in state schools. We have to get a coach that can recruit and develop. It's going to be ugly next year also.

That's not good news, if true.

Probably, but hopefully there'll be optimism with a new coach and maybe the new coach can get the most out of the players currently on the team and surprise us.

I don't know if Alexander will be ready to play next year, he tore his knee this season. Might take some time to recover. The new coach might need to process a guy or two to open up some spots. As of now, we only have one scholarship available. The team will have 5 seniors next year, including 3 frontcourt players. It's not a bad core, but it's going to take some serious work and there are some huge holes..

You assuming Blakeney stays another year?

That would have to be the first priority of any new coach, talking Blakeney into staying another season. He still has a lot of room to grow and he just doesn't have the size/skills to be a player at the next level, doing what he does. This season should have been devoted to developing him as a ball handler, facilitator and leader. Instead he has free lanced, played off the ball and turned it on it spurts. I would propose a plan to Blankeney to move him to lead guard and develop an offense around him. Mays and Patterson can still play next to him and spell him as need be, with Jenkins as the defensive demon. But turning the position over to a green freshman has been a horrible mistake this year.

On this, is Jenkins still not fully recovered from his injury?

I ask this because CJJ was really touting this guy while he was out hurt. Kept telling reporters on multiple occassions "you'll see when he gets out there, he is a defensive difference maker."

Yet with all the defensive issues this team has had he has barely seen the court and when he has, he's certainly not lived up to the touting.

I think Reath is just as likely to leave early.

Completely disagree. These two guys are Top 100 or fringe Top 100 guys in the nation. Plenty of other Power 5 teams wanted them. They both have flaws surely but this is not the Epps/Sims where LSU was only big offer they got. And for good reason.

I agree coach, certainly we don't have elite talent on this team and it is certainly flawed, but that's not the biggest issue here IMHO.

We are underachieving and have been after Johnny's first year....every year.

I'll say it again. I've watched Bama enough to conclude that they are not significantly more talented than us. One of our rejects is a key cog for their team. yet they are 7-5 in conference and we are 1-11. Coaching and leadershuip make a difference.

I've watched both these recruits. I watched Galen at breaux bridge and at LCA. Good players but not impact college players. Galen is a great athlete but very raw. He hasn't even dominated at the high school Level. Similar stats to what an all state player would have but definitely not even close to all American. I just haven't been impressed.

I don't know about significantly, but they do have more talent. It is a bigger, better constructed team with much more balance.

I know people keep bringing this up, but he left here and built his game at Morehead State where he was a good player. I'd love to have him back, especially as a Grad Student. Older, wiser, more experienced and unselfish. I'm happy for him, just a shame it's helping a school I hate more than any other..

Since we're on this subject of big men, does anyone think Victor would still be playing if we had another coach?

I believe so. I think Victor didn't respect Johnny enough and thus, wasn't worried about taking care of his own business. He was probably in that "frick it" stage, as in, this coach is horrible, this staff is horrible, this team is horrible, so frick it.

That said, you're right and I was thinking this same thing last night. The next coach will need some more talent, especially down low. Since we have been pretty shitty lately, he'll most likely have to go the Juco route.

I don't know if it was confirmed, but wasn't Victor let go for failed drug tests? I would guess that it would get back to the NCAA some kind of a way and he would have had issues down the road anyway.

Either way, I'm not going to blame a coach for a player with a drug or weed problem. I get that it's a recreational thing and have nothing against it, but the rules are the rules. He can't hide failed tests and he can't watch the players 24/7. It's on Victor. Hopefully he finds the errors of his ways and can come back from this. He is a talented kid and has a nice future, if he can change his ways.

It's not coming this summer, barring a transfer. This might sound kind of strange, but if they can't push Epps or Robinson out the door. I'd explore redshirting one of them. At this point, they are both just back-ups and kind of redundant. It would do both good (Epps needs strength, Robinson to lose weight/get healthy) and would give us more options going forward.

I would say very little if any better. Corban Collins starts for them. He left here cause he wasn't gonna play.

If by that you mean better coached, yes they are.

Meh, not much more IMHO...maybe a little.

Like many of the players we have coaching and leadership and a better system can do wonders to help kids imoprove. We have kids here who have cielings to improve but really are not because of the culture of the program.
