Not sold on Lane Kiffin as a head coach

Whoever hires him is getting a bad deal.
Retread hires usually don't work out. There is a reason he failed at USC - he is not a good head coach.
Coordinator, fine. But head coach, no. Two different styles of leadership.

Coaches can improve. See Pete Carroll Patriots vs Pete Carroll Seahawks. Kiffin wasn't exactly working with a full deck at USC

Yet for some reason this logic doesn't apply to O

I agree. He has failed twice in high profile jobs where he had every resource imaginable. At Houston, he will have much less to work with. Combine that with his immaturity and you have a mess.
There's nothing wrong with being a career Coordinator. His father was a legend in the NFL. Kiffin will demand a salary of close to 2 million a year.
He's making a career mistake.

Ehh, I can imagine him ending up with some blatant talent advantages through recruiting at Houston or USF and just burying crappy teams for a couple years.
I do agree with you that he'll never be unusually successful at a Power-5 level, though.

Then maybe he'll learn about hard work, considering he's been handed everything his entire life.

Yea, he was down 31 scholarships.

Be careful - the Orgeron supporters are going to accuse you of speaking in code here.

Someone please name a successful retread hire at the college level
Rich Rod worked for a short while at Arizona and now they are terrible
Muschamp is a retread hire at USC and the jury is still out
David Cutcliffe has been successful at Duke
Frank Solich has been OK at Ohio

Saban at Miami? Everyone likes to troll about him being an NFL bust

Apples and oranges. NFL and college head coaching jobs are completely different.

Are you sold on Kershaw yet?

And we care about this why? No OC at LSU, no fricks given.

But all but one of those "retreads" were successful in their first stint as a head coach:
Rich Rod was very successful at West Va
Muschamp failed at UF
Cutcliffe was over .500 in SEC at Ole Miss
Frank Solich was very successful at Nebraska
By comparison, Orgeron was 3-21 in conference at Ole Miss. I'd argue that a guy that fails that badly in his first go-round as head coach isn't going to be wildly successful in his second go-round. Hope I'm wrong.
