Talk in the other board has me intrigued. After shooting the 6.5 Creedmore and seeing the damage it causes with complete lack of recoil I'm intrested in the 280 for a future elk hunt. Yes the 7mag is plenty capable, but the lack of recoil on possible 500 yard shots can mean the difference. So where would you start? i would be a virgin building this so be easy on me.

Kimber offers a production gun in the .280ai. It's not cheap, but cheaper than going custom. Other than that, I'm sure any custom rifle maker will chamber it in .280ai if you like. Recoil, from what I've read is definitely better than a mag, but about the same as a 30-06, so much greater than the 6.5. I'm wanting to get one and have looked into the caliber a lot and really like what I have found.
Kimber
Like most guns, I'm sure you can find it for cheaper than the MSRP.

The nosler gun isn't bad either. Just wondering is you were going to make your own where would you start?

I don't know shite, but why couldn't you buy a rifle in .280 and have it reamed?

I would go with the 28 nosler if you want something badass.

Nice thread, hopefully someone knowledgeable can chime in. Im interested in the 280 AI, 7mm STW, and 6.5 Leopard (300 WSM x 6.5). If lived out west I'd just go with a 30-378 and call it a day.

You can, I did it with a 270 for shits and giggles and it picked up over 200 fps. I was handloading at the time and just fire formed brass from a 270.

When you fire-form brass, can you shoot a .280 load or do you need to fire form it with Crisco and a little powder? I was reading the other night on this AI deal and they were talking like you can shoot a factory .280 in the AI, and then have fire-formed AI brass to reload? Tx.

280AI all day. 7mag performance with 30-06 recoil, you can do some awesome handloads for it, and if you can't find the factory Nosler ammo (factory ammo for all 3 is very hard to come by, as im sure you know), you can shoot 280rem and it will fireform your brass

Buddy has a Cooper in .280 AI. Sweet gun

You can shoot a regular 280 in it. When I did it I just loaded 100 rounds a tad lighter than my regular load, shot all those and had starting brass for the Ackley shoulder.
