I wish Payton and Brees would stop trolling Goodell on his pet projects. I do respect them standing up to Goodell, but he is a documented vindictive a-hole.

The occasional rumblings about the NFL starting its first developmental league since NFL Europe shut down in 2007 have flared up again recently.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in October that there have been discussions on that front and Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reported late last month that NFL executive vice president for football operations Troy Vincent is ready to “make recommendations for a developmental league or in-season academy after years studying the matter.” We’ve heard several people around the league advocating for such a development, Saints coach Sean Payton is going the other way.
“I’m not in favor of the developmental league,” Payton said, via the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “I think you’re going to see an increased number of practice squad players. The developmental league, I think, is just a way for more network programming.
Payton had a different view in the spring when he said, via LaCanfora, that he thinks “you’re going to see that at some point now.” Payton also noted that officials would benefit from working in a developmental league, although it seems that benefit isn’t enough for him to get on board with the idea a few months later.

Incoming bad refs... Sigh.
After the shite with Oakland, NYG, and Denver they still want to attack the shield. Admirable, but dumb.

A developmental league is dumb though
Players are just expected to spend 3-4 years taking developmental hits on their body?
What in the world

How does one nowadays go about getting into the NFL if they don't go to college. Is there a certain age limit you have to be?
This has me wondering would players opt out of going to college and go straight to this league that would pay them to do the same thing they are doing in college.

Or a place players can make some money and have a chance at making their dreams come true.
It's not yalls money starting this league up so why would you care?
I think it's great. And it will no doubt produce players.
Where would Kurt Warner have been without the AFL?

You have college, Canadian football, and Arena football
How many developmental football leagues do you need? This is fricking dumb

Why is it dumb? Hundreds of kids will be given another chance of their dream. What is the negative? Or do you just wanna be a negative Nancy for fun?

I mean tons of American players loved going overseas with NFL Europe and a few of them landed on rosters. With a homegrown involvement of 22-25 year old players, you could have a solid system.
There are a lot of late bloomers out there who rarely played in college.

No age limit, but you cannot be eligible until 3 years after HS (at least that was the rule for Maurice Clarett & the USC WR).

And the argument can be made that they can go to the Canadian league, the AFL, or one of the many semi-pro leagues. I get what SP is saying that it is more of a way to have the league make more money with having football in the offseason; but I do not see where it would be more of a benefit than the CFL or Arena w/ possible worse ratings.

it would be more of a benefit because CFL and AFL rules make the running game obsolete.

I wouldn't mind it if they played in the spring.

Clete Blakeman's Crew:
Lions 6 penalties for 39 yards.
Saints 8 penalties for 68 yards.
